Large defects may at first appear to be too big to close in a side-to-side fashion.
Certain wounds and situations may call for healing with secondary intention or tertiary intention.
“EC-Closure” wound closure clip is very helpful in the approximation of widely separated
wound margins bringing together wound edges of certain large openings and relaxing the
tissues immediately along the wound margin enabling wound closure by primary intention thereby
shortening the duration of healing, and keeping scars within one cosmetic unit. With “EC-Closure” clips
in place one can be certain that the buried stitch will provide adequate support to the infrastructure
of the wound. Intra-operative skin expansion may help close wounds that could not be closed by any other
technique except for skin grafting.
