Audiometer: -
An audiometer is an instrument that is used to evaluate the hearing threshold of an individual on an individual basis. An audiologist uses special audiometric testing techniques, including an audiometer, to determine the threshold of hearing for a person, and identifies and quantifies their degree of hearing loss. From these results, the most effective medical treatment or a possible is recommended.
Types of Audiometers: -
Various type of audiometers are given below –
1) Screening audiometers: - A screening audiometer identifies a potential hearing problem.
2) Diagnostic audiometers: - The diagnostic audiometer is the first device to be used in the full diagnostic test battery. It is use to identify and quantify hearing disorders, and is much more flexible than a screening audiometer.
3) Clinical audiometers: - Clinical PC-driven audiometers are typically more accurate and efficient than software-driven audiometers, but cost more than software-driven units cost. Clinical audiometers are most common in hospitals, audiologists and in research. These are also used for industrial hearing testing.
4) Portable audiometer: - Portable audiometers have been developed as an effort to reach populations without access to hearing tests performed in controlled environments by highly trained professionals. These devices also require a power plug and a small amount of expertise to operate but you can move it anywhere. Comparing with traditional audiometer ,portable audiometers are simple to use.
Different types of audiometers are used to conduct different types of audiometery tests.
