Types of Defibrillator :
There are two types of defibrillator (AED) machines are available for hospital or home use.
- Biphasic Defibrillator - Biphasic Defibrillator gives bilateral current as to be positive and negative after its electrical energy is discharged. Namely, it conducts electric current bilaterally. In the initial phase, current flows from one electron to the other as it is in the monophasic defibrillator. In the second phase, the current starts to flow in the reverse direction. According to the studies done, it is observed that biphasic waves produce more successful defibrillation with lower energy than monophasic waves, and so they are less harmful. In addition, since the same results can be obtained with low-energy use, some adverse effects such as burns are also reduced.
- Monophasic Defibrillator - A monophasic Defibrillator is a device used for defibrillation to turn abnormal ECG rhythms into normal rhythms. When the heart enters ventricular fibrillation, the process of returning it to its normal sinus rhythm by giving an adequate amount of external electric current is called defibrillation, and the device used to produce such electric current is called a monophasic defibrillator. If electrical energy is given in the form of shocks, it will generate stimulation, namely, depolarization of the myocardium and systole. The heart should be without a pulse in ventricular fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia rhythm to give a shock to the heart through a defibrillator.
