LAMINAR AIR FLOW

A laminar Air flow is commonly found in microbiology laboratories. It consists of a chamber with an air flow blower attached to the back side that allows air flow in straight line parallel. They create the particulate-free working area by emitting air through a filtration system and exhausting it across the work surface.

For this reason, every kind of impurity particle that enters the cabinet is filtered and captured. To eliminate airborne impurity particles as small as 0.3 micrometers, it uses a filter pad in conjunction with a specialized filter system called a high-efficiency particulate air filter, or HEPA filter.

USES OF LAMINAR AIR FLOW:

  • Laminar flow cabinets are used in laboratories for contamination sensitive processes like plant tissue culture.
  • Operations of particle sensitive electronic devices are performed inside the cabinet.
  • A laminar flow hood is equipment that uses laminar airflow to protect lab samples and equipment from contamination.
  • Laminar flow hoods are used in various settings, including medical laboratories, pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, and food processing plants.

IMPORTANCE OF LAMINAR AIR FLOW:

Laboratories such as labs, which are intimately associated with scientific investigations, must keep a sanitary and uncontaminated atmosphere. Sensitive materials kept in a laboratory include biological samples, test findings, and frequently hundreds of chemicals. It is essential to prevent contamination. Laminar flow hoods are widely used in laboratories to ensure a sterile environment. They are used in conjunction with laboratory workstations. Within the lab, clean air is continuously circulated toward the researchers after being filtered to remove pathogens.

TYPES OF LAMINAR AIR FLOW:

Remember, Before buying this equipment the buyer should know that what the types of laminar air flow are:

  • Vertical laminar air flow chamber: The components of a vertical laminar air flow chamber consist of a fan fixed to the cabinet roof. A fan drawn in air and sent vertically downward. As air travels from the cabinet's top to its bottom, positive pressure is produced. It is regarded as reasonably safe because the user is not directly exposed to the air.
  • Horizontal laminar air flow: In a horizontal laminar airflow system, the filtration unit is located at the side of the cabinet from where the room air enters the working area. The filtered air then flows horizontally towards the work surface, sweeping the contaminants along with the flow.
  • Ceiling laminar air flow: The ceiling laminar air flow unit is a confinement equipment module that uses a zoned unidirectional flow supply to the air to positively pressurize the working environment from potential contaminants.

PARTS OF LMINAR AIR FLOW CABINET:

  1. Enclosure

It is a box that provides the voluminous area to function as a sterile environment. This device comprises a stainless steel cuboid box with a glass shutter. The sterile environment created inside the cabinet is protected by the enclosure. It is this enclosure that separates it from the outside environment.

2.Work surface

The work surface is made up of stainless steel. It's the enclosed flat table that you will be using for operations. There may be openings in the work surface to allow air to pass through in a vertical laminar air flow.

3.Filter pad

The purpose of the filter pad is to trap or stop impurities from spreading by capturing them. This filter pad traps microbes and dust particles from entering the working space within the cabinet.

4. Fan and blower

It is the actual machine responsible for the airflow. The fan sucks the air    in through the pre-filter and presses it through the HEPA filter. In a vertical laminar air flow cabinet, the blower is usually placed right underneath the filter pad.

5. HEPA Filter

The most important component of a laminar air flow is this. Positioned adjacent to the enclosure and divided by a mesh screen is the HEPA filter. The HEPA filter is located at the rear of the cabinet in devices with horizontal airflow types. The airflow type will be positioned on top of the enclosure if it is vertical.

6. UV Lamb

Although HEPA filters provide well-filtered air, the air isn't totally sterile. Only specific microns are allowed to pass through the filter, and some outside air does manage to get in. Microbes may be present on the work area and enclosure surfaces. They are eliminated by the UV radiation that the UV lamp emits.

ADVANTAGES OF LAMINAR AIR FLOW:

  •  Suitable: does not pollute the environment with harmful gas releases.
  • Simple to maintain: all you have to do is wash the pre filter when it gets dirty.
  • Ninety percent of laminar air flow cabinets have castor wheels on the bottom and are lightweight. You can move them around with ease thanks to these wheels.
  • The environment they offer is sterile in which you can do research work. A laminar Air Flow is cheaper than the other machine.

DISADVANTAGES OF LAMINAR AIR FLOW:

  • Working with the flow activated creates turbulent air columns with eddies and vortices.
  • The user's face is directly exposed to contaminated air by a horizontal air flow cabinet.
  •  If not maintained correctly, these equipment breakdown.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND WHILE USEING THE LAMINAR AIR FLOW CABINET:

  • When operating in laminar flow, always have written instructions and guidelines close at hand.
  • Make sure that the Laminar cabinet is in good working order before using it.
  • Keep or store cabinets in an area where there is less traffic.
  • Reduce the number of items placed around the surface area.
  • Keep sashes closed.

LAMINAR AIR FLOW PRICE RANGE:

The Laminar Air Flow price ranges between INR 2000 to INR 2 Lakh and the price totally depends on its type, features and its brands. If you are looking for an affordable price range Laminar Air Flow , at the hospital store you will get a wide and top brand laminar air flow.
