What Is Transducer protectors?
Transducer protectors are used in bloodlines of hemodialysis to keep the blood side of the circuit separate from the machine side and to prevent the contamination of the machine by the flow of blood through the circuit. This contamination could have been very dangerous.
It can lead to cross-contamination of patients with hepatitis B or other viruses. Transducer protectors allow air to pass through while preventing the blood from passing across with help of a hydrophobic membrane (typically .2 micron). It is also sometimes known as “blood catcher”.
